Winsford Cricket Club
2025 Season Review

Winsford, having finished second in Division 2 in 2024, were duly promoted back up to Division 1.

Right from the start, Winsford had problems raising a full team which led to conceding their opening match to East Huntspill. This was followed by a significant loss to Over Stowey, albeit with a largely makeshift team.

The third game offered some hope as we ran Bagborough close, only to lose by 2 wickets. This turned out to be a false dawn sadly as the next results produced two concessions (again due to not having a team), one abandonment due to the weather and three losses, before Winsford ran Bagborough close again, this time losing by just the one wicket.

There followed two more concessions and a defeat before Winsford gained their first and only win of the season, defeating Ashbrittle (who finished the season in second place) by 4 wickets in a low scoring game.

The final four matches of the season consisted of two defeats and two cancellations due to weather, and Winsford duly finished at the bottom of the pile.

It must be recognised that even if we had won the 5 games conceded, we may still have been relegated from what is a very competitive division.

There were one or two bright points from the season, not least of which was the introduction of the latest in the How dynasty, young Beatrice aged 13, seen below with proud dad James. Beatrice acquitted herself admirably, including taking 4 wickets.

The leading batters for the season were Ryan Dean and Henry Dunn, who were also the only two to get a score of over 50. Ryan's strike rate of 142 was particularly impressive.

The bowling was led by Andrew Blackmore with 15 wickets - sadly his long time attack partner Dan Bowley had to miss most of the games due to injury, but he contributed well at the back end of the season. Lawrence Priest, Henry Dunn and Duncan Westcott also all chipped in regularly.

2026 will see a welcome return to Division 2, and it is hoped that we can get a settled and successful team firing again.
