The Gardening Club meets on the second Tuesday of each month and the cost is £2 (usually including tea and cake!)

 

Monthly meetings take place from May to October, with an additional meeting in January,  in the village hall or at fellow members' gardens.  The club has agreed a theme for each meeting throughout the year. Click here for details

Items the club aims to cover include

• Sharing which jobs need to be done each month.

• What grows well in Winsford and what doesn’t.

• Inviting expert gardening speakers to our meetings.

• Visits to each other’s gardens.

• Sharing seeds, cuttings and plants.

• What to grow without a greenhouse.

• Organising visits to gardens of interest and other places.

• How to grow fruit and veg

Jobs this month (September)

​​​

• Trim hedges (good for compost).

• Trim lavender after flowering.

• Start planting spring flowering bulbs for next year.

• Divide herbaceous perennials regularly to ensure healthy, vigorous plants that will continue to perform year after year. It also gives the opportunity to multiply your plants.

• Keep deadheading annuals and perennials to extend their performance. Deadhead your dahlias and roses to keep flowers coming.

• Pick off rotting fruits from stone fruit frees - they will spread disease if left on the tree.

• Create a new lawn from turf or seed - autumn weather is favourable for good lawn establishment.

• Gather and save seeds from your favourite hardy annuals and perennials in dry envelopes.

• Refresh containers with Autumn plants, heathers, cyclamen, violas.

• Protect tender plants from early frosts.
