With thanks to Aubrey Vellacott for bringing this fascinating glimpse of local history to our attention
Also from the BFI, this 1924 extract comes from Claude Friese-Greene's 'The Open Road', showing a hunt on Winsford Hill

A picture, courtesy of Mervyn Sellick, of an unknown family, possibly his, outside the Royal Oak in 1930.
Mervyn's great grandfather was Ernest Edward Ellis, a prominent architect in Exmouth who took photographs from the late 19th century and even published a book in 1899. The photography carried on with his son Len and daughter May.
The photo of The Royal Oak may have been hers.Inscribed on the back is "Winsford Bank holiday Aug 1930. Considered the prettiest Village in England"
