Where to get good foodand refreshments

Winsford has two excellent places to get food in the 12th century Royal Oak Inn and the Bridge Cottage Tea Rooms (open from July 4th)  both in the centre of the village.

The region also offers plenty of other high quality eateries, with everything from simple pub grub to a Michelin star.  Here are some of our favourites

Tarr Farm Inn (3.5 miles, also see Walks pageFine food  and drinks overlooking the historic Tarr Steps  Tel. 01643 851507 **Opening from July 4th. Tables inside will need to be booked in advance and table service will be provided.  Initial opening times (subject to change) Saturday & Sunday 4th & 5th July 11am-5pm. (Food available 12-5) Monday & Tuesday CLOSED. Wednesday 8th - Sunday 12th 11am-11pm (Food available 12-9). Rooms can also be booked with a minimum 2 night stay at the moment. **

Royal Oak Withypool (4 miles). "A very special 18th-century pub in the heart of Exmoor"  Tel. 01643 831506 **Reopening midday Sat July 4th. Tables for food must be pre-booked online or by phone, food served 12-9. No booking required for Beer garden, tables allocated on first come first served basis.  Overnight room bookings from Friday 7th August **

Withypool Tearooms (4 miles) offering "a good choice of Home Made Cakes, freshly filled baguettes, Local pasties and sausages rolls, daily specials and the traditional Cream Tea". Tel 01643 831279. **Due to re-open July 4th**

Rest & Be Thankful Inn, Wheddon Cross (5 miles) "Early 19thC Inn at the heart of Exmoor National Park"  Tel. 01643 841222 **Will be re-opening and outside bar facility with light bar snacks from 4th July 12 noon. Bar snacks will be available Fri, Sat and Sun 12 - 2 and 6 - 8pm (Sun 5pm). Bar open Mon - Thurs from 5pm, Fri - Sun from 12. Accommodation from August. Subject to change**

Dulverton (6.5 miles) There is a good selection of places to eat in this nearby historic town, such as 

Woods Award winning pub & restaurant with astonishing wine list  Tel 01398 324007 **Due to open the evening of Friday July 10th**

Tongdam Thai Unusual cuisine for the area, but excellent quality. 

Tel 01398 323397 **Tongdam will continue supplying takeaways, but will not be opening as a restaurant for July at least. See their Facebook page for further details**

Bridge Inn  Pub by the river with a good selection of drinks and modern British food. Tel 01398 324130 ** Limited opening on the 4th & 5th then fully open from Monday 6th. Bare in mind there are a limited number of tables which will be allocated on a first come first served basis**

Masons Arms, Knowstone (14 miles). OK, a little further away, but well worth planning a trip to this Michelin starred pub and restaurant. Tel. 01398 341231 **Reopening from July  4th. Tues-Sat lunch and dinner, and lunch on the first Sunday of the month. Bookings over the phone**
