The Parish Council have published the minutes of their April meeting.

Amongst items discussed were:

------------------------------------

Our bellringers  have their work cut out tomorrow. They, and the other Exmoor ringers are ringing around the Benefice  to commemorate VE day as follows:

  • 10am Cutcombe,

  • 11am Luxborough,

  • 12 noon Winsford,

  • 2pm Withypool,

  • 3pm Hawkridge,

  • 4pm Exford

------------------------------------

A group of villagers ignored the chill wind and converged on the Village Green to celebrate the 80 year anniversary of VE Day. The gathering had been organised at very short notice by the Recreation Association, and the green and hall decorated with the help of some additional volunteers - thanks to them all.  Further photos will appear shortly on our village events page.

The Recreation Association have passed on this message:

 â€‹

Thank you to everyone who have decorated their homes ahead of VE day & to those who attended the Recreation Association’s (WRA) VE day celebrations yesterday on the Village Green. A fantastic atmosphere with a large number of you attending. Although organised last minute, it was felt by the committee this was an important event that should be recognised.

In case you haven’t seen Winsford Recreation Association’s latest minutes on https://www.winsfordvillage.info/100-club we’ve had a change of trustees. Thanks to David & Jayne Luscott who have done sterling work for the association since April 2021 & who have now stepped down. Welcome to Ian & Ellen Chamberlain & Jo Lawrence who have joined us & who we know will be valuable members of the team.

Unfortunately, we’re a bit late doing the door to door collections for this year’s subscriptions for the WRA 100 club draw. For those of you who don’t know a payment of £15.00 enters you for a draw each month with cash prizes, plus supporting local amenities. For further information please see https://www.winsfordvillage.info/100-club.  We hope to start the collections this week. Payment can be made by cash or cheque (made payable to Winsford Recreation Association) to Frazer Lawrence at Weirside, Edbrooke Road, or pay on line to Nat West, Sort Code 60-14-30 Account number 62585975 (please add your name as reference). We won't be making the May draw until all collections have been completed.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who supports the WRA which in turn supports the upkeep of the tennis courts, the cricket pavilion, the recreation field and our brilliant cricket team & allows us to put on other functions for ALL in the village to enjoy.

Kind Regards

WRA committee

A very good crowd basking in the May sunshine, saw a depleted Winsford's opening match against Over Stowey turn into a rather one sided affair.  The visitors, against some inexperienced bowling, reached 243 for 8 in their 40 overs.  Winsford mustered just 54 before they were all out.

One positive note was 13 year old Beatrice How (above with father James), who claimed a wicket, bowled, in just her first over. She also fielded very well, and got a couple of runs.

Beatrice is part of the Youth Development program at Somerset County Cricket Club

The village was treated to this low flying plane, identified as an Atlas A400M by our aeronautical correspondent,  skimming rooftops as it passed overhead. Under normal circumstances this plane would be allowed to fly as low as 250 feet. For comparison St Mary Magdalene's tower height is 90 feet.
